I am wanting to start using a 1-800 number but have never needed one before. Can anyone give me some advice where to find the less expensive rates?

I use ringcentral. It takes a while to figure out, but once you get it set up.... it is very nice!
I use ITC Deltacom. They are really reasonable with prices. The company is based in Alabama, so it may be regional, but I have had really good service and was able to use my regular phone number with 888 for the toll free.
If you use VONAGE, you can get an 888 or 877 number for $5/mo (500 minutes is included), all calls will be forwarded to your number.
