Mobile Home Park Sewer

srober profile photo

I am trying to find out some information for my dad who lives in a mobile home park in Missouri.

Today he discovered a plumbing problem in his home. Sinks, toilets, tubs were all backing up with water on each side of the home. The park manager referred him to a plumber. They have discovered the problem is not the plumbing in the home but the main line that goes under the pad to the main sewer line..

He is being told he has to pay for this. This is going to be expensive fix seeing they have to dig up the yard to get to this. It doest make since that he has to upkeep/repair a sewer line for that lot. I would think its the park responsibity to make these repairs. Am I wrong here? My dad is considering hiring a lawyer but I was wondering how strong his case would be.

Thanks

It is also of my opinion, assuming your dad is renting the lot, that the sewer line would be the owners property and the owner would be responsible in fixing it.

Even further, depending on state law, the park owner may be liable for damage to your father's home if the problem is not corrected in a timely manner.

This advise is as a layman and not as an attorney. You should seek competent professional advise.[ Edited by myfrogger on Date 06/27/2004 ]

Sounds to me like he should be really pissedo ff and yelling and screaming and the such. I'd find my self a good lawyer if I was in your dad's shoes. Or, ask to be moved to a different pad?[ Edited by rmdane2000 on Date 06/27/2004 ]

    SROBER --

STOP ... with hiring an expensive attorney ... at least for own.

FIRST ... contact the PARK OWNER directly. Since the park manager told your dad the plumbing problem in your dad's responsibility.

Have your dad or yourself explain the situation directly to the park owner and give the park owner the opportunity to take the responsibility. Maybe the park manager wanted to quickly brush off the problem onto your dad.

Now if the park owner does not want to take action or even care ... then contact the local environmental health department (city or county) about the back-up plumbing and sewer problem.
The park will have to take notice then.
