CA Civil Code 2945 - Interpretation, Please

Being a newbie, I'm trying to learn all the state laws pertinent to what we might be doing. Knowing that we'll run into many people who will want to keep their home (after being served with their NOD) we'd like to be able to help them with mitigation thru their lender whenever possible. However, the Civil Code seems to be saying that, if you do that you're serving as a "foreclosure consultant." Can anyone tell me whether or not a "foreclosure consultant" must have a real estate sales license?
What other pitfalls are there in this area to be warned about?
