So You're Going To Be A Slumlord
So I was at church talking to a friend telling him I was going to rent my house out and this other guy hears and says "So you're going to be a slumlord". . . I could have killed him. It has bothered me all week. I said "you don't know a thing about realestate" and he said "I know a lot about slumlords".
So i've been thinking of all the comebacks I should have used like "I bet you suck at what you do, and you really suck at what you don't do". I just can't stand naysayers. Anyone have a good way to take care of them?

It takes more strength and mental toughness to smile and just say "nah, just looking at it from an investment opportunity". Not easy to bite your tongue and walk away, but those who have the mental fortitude to do so, will be better off in the long run. Many, many times have I wanted to snap back at someone, but decided against it, and eventually was much happier that I did not. Dont lower yourself to their level. Just my opinion.

Educate him .......stupid comments like that come from people that tend to spout their ignorance to make themselves feel superior.........if that doesnt work Just start praying for his sins (you were at Church right?) He knows not what he does..........well he probably does and just wanted to get your goat....guess it worked :-D
Josh,Do not worry about what he says about. In June I will celebrate 25 years of being a slumlord. But it is funny but many of the tenants I inherited still live in my houses. Be at peace with yourself and do not worry about other peoples negative comments.
Don't let it get to you. Say "actually, it's a very nice house, and I hope to find someone who will appreciate it and help me keep it that way. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone who will help me find a good tenant. Here's my card."
The remark he made was really just an offhanded comment, a kneejerk response based mostly on popular mythology. Be thankful that not everyone understands or wants to be a landlord, because it lessens the competition for those of us that do.
