How do I delete my own post??

DaveT profile photo

Sometimes I change my mind and want to delete my own post. When I click on the "edit/delete" link, I see the editing functions but the delete function is missing.

This only happens when I am in a Forum in which I am not a moderator. I see the delete function in the Forums in which I am a moderator.

    DaveT,

Where you see the pencil and pad at the bottom of your post, this is where you edit or delete your 'own' post, whether you are a moderator or not.

    Thanks John,

But I still have the problem. After a little experimentation, I discovered that the message delete capability (for my own posting in a forum where I am not a moderator) seems to be available only during the session in which I made the post.

Once I logoff the site, my previous posts seem to become locked. Sometimes, I go away for a few minutes, a light goes on, and I want to delete my post and start anew. If I have logged off between posting the message and coming back to delete it, the delete function is no longer available.

I did not try to stay online for a very long session to see if the delete function is keyed to the amount of time the posting has been on the board. I also have not noticed whether the posting had been viewed in the interim. Perhaps, a post can not be deleted once it has been viewed by another reader.

Oh well, rather than conducting further experiments, I better prepare a purchase agreement for a property I am viewing tomorrow.
