What Should It Cost To Have A CA/H Installed In A 1500 Sqft Bungelow?

Mal2 profile photo

the house has never had Central Air/heat but does have crawl space underneath. So no duct work.

We have received a few estimates but they seem really high to me and this being our first total rehab.

I just wanted some ballpark figures I do not want to be stuck with paying more than we should or bad equipment.

I hope this is not taken that I am asking for bids I am not just need to know what we should expect to pay.

thanks

Mal

depends on the area, some areas that were once nice neighborhoods with large houses have had the houses converted into 4, 5, 6, whatever -plexes when the neighborhood turns south. It can be very profitable. The main thing is zoning. Alot of that type of conversion took place when i was just a baby, and since then most city planners believe its not a real good idea for improving a neighborhood (go figure). But, yeah, zoning. I have enough trouble getting an agreement for the ability to rebuild a duplex in a neighborhood that has been rezoned to SFR, let alone take something that is SFR and convert it to duplex or more.[ Edited by rmdane2000 on Date 07/08/2005 ]

I agree, zoning will be your biggest issue. As for the actual conversion, the cheapest way to do it is to put up the walls/dividers necessary for a separate entrance, but leave the plumbing, electric as is. Build the cost of the utilities into the rent and rent it as "All Included".
