Store Accounts @ HD And Lowes

Does anyone know how I can get a negotiated discount at the big home improvement warehouses? I know some contractors that get 10% off on their account every time, but when I called they said they could set me up with credit, but would only give me a one time discount. Do most rehabbers get a permanent discount?

Ask HD for a contractor's cash account. They don't advertise the policy, though they give a 10% discount for purchases made at the ProDesk. When asked for your business tax ID, just give your SSN.

Do the same thing at Lowes and Sherwin Williams. Any discount, however small, is worth it.

sherwin-williams will give substantial discounts off their list price - if you have an account with them AND if you ask for the discount. you only have to ask once for a given product - master hide paint for example, then your negotiated price is in their computer. sometimes their listed prices - caulk for example - is half of home depot's price.

All of these companies will give you a standard 10% discount, but you have to ask. If you have a contractors license even better. First time I went in I only had a plumbers license. But I got the discount. Some smart ass did ask if I intended to paint my pipes.

If you are not the proud possessor of a contractors license re: B-1 General Contractor you can fudge. Just have the cards made up describing yourself as a Developer/Builder, Property Management Co.

Hand the card over with a flourish, tape on the counter as if you are in a big hurry and you got it. Just use Soc.Sec when asked if you do not have a Fed No.

Also another little goodie for the cash challenged. A decorators license. Now that is a kicky little item. You buy it at time you get a business license. just describe yourself as a decorator. Ok wave your hands around keep a limp wrist, they will love you Describe all colors as Divine. Now you got it.

Contractors Wharehouse is one of my favorite places. I like it cause if I need loads of lumber, you just drive out into the yard and load it from racks onto your truck. My truck 1981 VW Diesel Pickup has 52 horsey power, gets 54 Miles per Gallon and I love it. Gone over million miles. You should see it loaded down with lumber hysterical. People pass me by sneering away. SUV's considered me offensive yeah they can pass everything on the road except a gas station.

    I hope this helps. Lucius

I think HD gives a discount to REIA members, contractor or not. At least they do in Cincinnati, Columbus, and a few others. Happy Holidays.
