Problem with Neighbor

GRIFF58 profile photo

We recently bought a house with 5.5 acres. There are approx. 4 acres behind the house with a pasture. Our neighbor stopped us from putting up an electric fence to keep his horses off our property and in turn put up a fence that is 2 ft. on our property all the way down the 4 acres. What can we do to have him move this or make sure he will not be able to claim the land? Please answer as soon as possible as we have to get moving on this situation.

I would go down to the county zoning department and explain the situation to them. See if they can't help you out. If not, then go seek advise from a real estate attorney. They are familiar with laws associated with real estate, including zoning.

Depending on the relationship you have with them, since it is on your property, you do have all rights to remove the fence. Can you prove that the fence is on your property?

Also, since it is your property, you are allowed to place a fence that is ok'd by your ordinances in your area. If there are no ordinances against an electric fence, then put one up.

Maybe the person next to you doesn't understand the type of fence you are talking about. My sister has horses and uses a pulse electric fence to keep them in.

Above all, it is your property and as long as you comply to county/city ordinances, you should be fine.
