LLC? Living In California, Rental Out Of State
I live in California, but have bought a rental in a different state. I want to form an LLC for liability protection. Where do I form it? If it is formed in rental state, do I still have to pay the $800 annual California state LLC tax/fee.
You can tell Sacramento to go take a hike and you owe them NO duty of any kind if you form LLC in any other state.
Of course you'll have the annual need to register the LLC in the other state & to keep & pay for somebody there to be your AFS (agent for service), but that's likely to be had for $100 or less per year.
