Dishwashers
what do you all know about dishwasher models? I have one in a rental that is about to go out. Should I buy a cheapo new one - Best Buy has one for $170 - can I find a better deal? Or should I move the one from my residence to the rental and buy a new one for my house. The one at at my house works fine but does not clean food off the plates - we have to do that manually beforehand. The dishwasher we have at work will clean food off the plates. How much would I have to pay for a dishwasher like that which will clean dried junk off? And what models are best at doing that?
According to Consumer Reports Amana is the best dishwasher for the price. Whirlpool has the fewest repairs. Kenmore (Sears) and Maytag are high up on the list of low cost, good quality dishwashers.
Sears, whirlpool, kenmore, are all made by the same manufacturer, and marketed under different names. they are all whirlpool , agreed Sears discount is a great place to shop, there are several ding and dent places to buy from, they work just as well without the cost.

Bet Buy scratch and dent units can be good buys.
I prefer to spend enough to get a dishwasher that will heat the water.
"Hi-Temp Wash," "Sani-Wash," etc cycles are what I look for.

Check with your local county or city building inspector. I live in a small area and all I have to do is go to the county inspector at the court house, pay $25, fill out a short form describing the project and pick up the permit. Best of luck to you.

When I show a home to a buyer client, or look at a home to list it for sale, I always check the listed SF against the County tax roll SF. The measuring methods may create a small discrepancy, but if someone finishes a basement or attic without pulling permits, the difference is dramatic and a massive red flag.
And permits are listed on the County Tax website. If the attic is permitted, then it shows.
Pulling permits separates you from the riff-raff rehabbers, IMO.

Before you buy a property how do you test for this?
Many areas have beekeepers you can call. They will come and remove the honeycomb.

If there is a university in the area, it would be a good idea to call them. They are often willing to come and remove hives for reseach, etc.
