Carpeting In Hallways

alexlev profile photo

I'm thinking of putting down some indoor/outdoor carpeting in the hallways and sairs of my 4-unit apartment buildings. I have one property that I purchased with carpeting already installed, and I really like it. If anyone does anything similar in their properties, could you please share what sort (color, strength, etc.) of carpet you use, whether you use the glued or padded versions, and any additional info/advice on this topic that you think might be useful.

Thanks all.

A friend of mine bought used commercial carpet that was being removed from an office building and installed it in the common areas of his 30 unit building. The carpet was in good shape and it cost less than new non-commercial carpet. Ten years later it still looks great...or as he says "it wears like steel wool!".

everything i buy for homes is contractor grade, from cabinets and fixtures to carpet. colors should be your choice but usually a medium brown or medium gray are neutral enough to get the job done. a firm pad is my best choice - it makes the carpet wear less over the years.
