Do any of you ever use your credit cards for rehabs to earn travel miles?? It seems like a great idea to me, but I have never done it before.

Thanks,
Heather

I've got one, but the program kind of sucks. I posted this question a while ago and got some good responses.

Most people favor the Delta American Express card. Has a small anual fee, but the miles accrue quickly.

Amex Blue is fantastic. No annual fee and you can transfer the points to lots of different frequent flyer programs. At last check, Delta, Song, Continental, US Air, Southwest, Frontier, and Hawaiian Airlines all accepted points. Most accept them at an exchange rate of 1 point to 1 mile. And if you're looking for something a bit more exotic, Aeroplan (all Star Alliance partners), ANA, AeroMexico, Mexicana, Virgin, El Al, Air France, Aer Lingus, Air Jamaica, Alitalia, Cathay Pacific, LAN, Quantas, and Swiss also accept Amex Blue points. Definitely a card worth having.

how long do you have to carry before the points are yours. or after the charge when can you pay off the balance and still get the points....kenmax

To be honest, I don't know. But from what I've seen, if you charge today and pay off today, the points are yours. No need to carry a balance for any period of time. You actually get the points about a month or two after you've paid off the charge. The website is really easy to navigate and it'll show you how many points have been earned, but are still outstanding and have yet to be awarded.

Capitol One has a great flyer reward program. No annual fee, one point per dollar spent, no black out dates and you get frequent flyer miles when you fly. There are four zones in the US. Flying within your zone takes less than 25k points. I can not remember the exact points, but they are comparable to most airlines ff programs. (It use to be just 15k points to fly in your zone. That was a great deal for the east coast).

I usually do all the research, find the flight I want, and then call Cap One rewards travel agent partner to book the flight. It is a regular restricted ticket, so you get frequent flyer miles when you fly. Any airlines is ok, you must have a saturday night stay, you can not switch airlines.

The interest rate stinks so it has to be a card that you pay off each month.

No, No, No, No, Don't Do It, Don't Do It, Don't Do It.

You have to be kidding me. Have you read what it actually costs for those miles.

I recieve credit card offers all the time and laugh at them.

Let me make you this offer.

You give me $50.00 and I will give you $45,000. Even trade no strings attached, what do you say, deal?

You would be a fool to pass it up would'nt you? That is the offer the credit card companies are offering you only reversed. You give them $45,000 and they give you $50.

Each mile you "Earn" is usually 1 per new dollar charged. Interest, penalties, service charge, transferes, and fee's do not count.

Most cards I see state that 2,500 "miles" will earn you one (1) $400 domestic coach ticket. 52,000 "miles" will earn you one (1) $1200 international coach ticket.

The "miles" earned and the ticket prices themselves should tell you something is wrong. Not to mention you are going to add interest to this.

Don't do it. It will be cheaper to simply buy the ticket. Read the fine print on the back of these offers in their entirty before you make that "Pre-Approved" offer a contract by signing it and sending it back in and getting that piece of plastic.

La dealer - what is the difference if you write checks for $45,000 and get no miles, or use a capital one card and then write a check for $45,000 at the end of the month and get the miles?

  • bgrossnickle20th September, 2004

LADealer, my card has no annual fee and I pay it off each month, so I do not care about the interest. Why would I not want to get miles when I charge?

have been using amex (payoff every 30 days) for 15 yrs. usually 20,000 points at $1. a point gets you a roundtrip ticket - on southwest to continental usa. This actually costs me about $45./yr. the points can build from year to year. I have been a contractor for years and use this card just as a business card. Would i recommend it, yes...just remember, the balance has to be paid every 30 days...regards, CWal
