Doritos, Cheetos And Fritos

Bruce profile photo

Hello NC_Yank,

I too have noticed that the bags are always half empty. My wife has noticed that the bags are always opened and empty, but I think that is a different story.

Why do you think that is?

I did a quick search and made a few calls. The OFFICIAL story has something to do with "some settling occurs" and "the product is sold by weight" or some other nonsense. To be honest I was not really paying any attention, because I soon as I started my investigation a black van pulled up outside my house.

I think there is some sort of snack food conspiracy going on.

I have donned my tin foil hat and will continue to research this issue.

It's marketing! Bigger bags cost a little more but it gives them more billboard space in the grocery store, and we, as consumers, will pick the biggest bag for the buck, gluttonous pigs that we are. I wonder about the air sealed in the bigger bags... I wonder if the folks who design the bags call themselves part of the airospace technology sector?

    Good Luck,

    Hey Ray,

If I get there first your bags aren't half full or half empty, they are all empty!!! You would be lucky if the bag was left intact. Crunch, crunch, crunch...

    Hey Loanwizard,

I see you are quoting the company line. They got to you already didn't they??!!!

Here are the "secrets" to your question!
With 15 years in the vending businesss,
i initially asked the similar question, then the big answer- do you want crushed chips? the expanded bag helps to provides a limited cushion so not to receive a completely crushed bag,and helps to reduce added breakage in shipping.2nd, important ! the bag acts as
a insulator, between the inside and outside temp. - notice how the chips are never "cold or "hot" to the touch - its the
air cushion in the bag that causes this
and extends the initial shelf life!
Now you are all experts in the chip process!
    Mark,

    Hello,

Just to set the record straight; I did not ask the question...NC Yank did...but in a different post. But he was on to something (actually two things): one, this section is for NON-RE questions/comments/insane ideas and two, there is some conspiracy involving snack food.

And now a mysterious MISTER Mark appears out of nowhere, claiming to have an inside angle on the snack food industry. But does he actually expose the TRUE conspiracy...oh no...he states some more "facts":

    1) Crushed chips --- By leaving space in the bag, this somehow prevents chips from being broken. It lets them rattle around freely and this, somehow, prevents chips from breaking???? Is that like packing a moving van only half full and not tying down the furniture? INSANE. Only the evil work of the conspirators could come up with an answer that far fetched.

    2) Insulator --- My thermos is a good insulator and so is my down jacket, but I have covered my body with many an empty snack bag over the years (when I fall asleep on the couch after eating them) and it never warmed me up. You never see anyone selling a blanket made of old dorito bags, do you????

Folks... I feel we are gettng closer and closer to the truth here. Maybe someone from deep inside the belly of the corporate headquarters of Frito-Lay (hereafter called THE BEAST) will be brave enough to come forward. The future of our society could rest upon it!!

Not only that but the are inside is filled with nitrogen to keep the chips fresher.

I also believe the food industry has been putting microscopic computer chips in my food to track what I eat.

These chips then float around in my blood stream and send messages to my brain that I must eat more.

Especially ice cream with oreo cookie in it.

I also suspect the dietary industry is in on this conspiracy too.

Other wise they would not have all these health videos and exercise machines to sell.

Alas,.....but until i can prove this for a fact, I will continue to eat my ice cream.
