Condo Or Investment Home?

I'm not sure I should invest in a weekly vaction home in orlando, mainly because I live in NY. Then I must hire a property management company. I have been told that these companies often lie to the homeowners and tell them that something needs to be fixed when it really doesnt need to be fixed. How could you possibly know if they are telling the truth.? wouldn't it be smarter to invest in a luxury condo? Then if anything breaks or needs fixing, they take care of it. All you would have to do is hire a cleaning service. Which one would be the smarter invesment considering where I live?

Thank you once again for the help. smile

I live in Ohio and have a condo in Myrtle Beach SC. I manage it myself from Ohio. I do make at least one trip a year to the condo myself. 3-4 weeks a year I have relatives renting as well. There are about 20 of us owners in the same complex that work together and rent our own units. We keep updated via email as to everyone's vacancies. To be honest if you're rates are right it is very easy to keep a vacaton rental full. If you have any questions let me know. I have been doing it this way for about 6 years.

PS. You are right about price gouging for repairs. That is another reason to keep in touch with other owners for repair company referrals.
