Joel, Can You Please Clarify?

NancyChadwick profile photo

Joel,
On Sunday, 6/6, a member posted a topic called OHIO KEEPING THE HOUSE in the Commercial Forum.

http://www.thecreativeinvestor.com/ViewTopic28774-32-14.html

I received a request via the "Report this post" mechanism to delete the topic. By this time, several replies had already been posted to the topic. So I posted the following:

"tlatsa,
Someone reported your post and asked that it be deleted because you typed the title of the topic in all caps which is not permitted (see Forum Rule #9). I don't feel that your topic should be deleted, but I am advising you of this Rule so that you won't TYPE IN ALL CAPS in future posts."

tlatsa posted apologizing and saying "I didn't realize I had caps lock on...."

Then JohnLocke posted:

"Chadwick,
I am sure the other Moderators here at TCI will show you the same respect you have shown them the next time you send in a Report This Post. This person should have been advised by private message to Re-Post, I too feel the post is important but does this mean everytime someone posts the first time they are allowed to violate the rules?

Subsequently, 6/7, Kyle Gatton decided to locke the topic.

There is lack of uniformity in deleting or locking topics that use ALL CAPS in their titles. Here are just a few examples of Forum topics that haven't been deleted or locked because of ALL CAPS:

I would point out the following:

A. None of these topics has been deleted.

B. None of these topics has been locked.

C. In several instances there is Moderator reply posting to the substance of the topic.

D. In several instances, the posts actually contain advertising.

E. Not one Moderator posted to the topic advising the poster of the Rule against using ALL CAPS.

Now, if Moderators in the above Forums chose not to delete or locke topics that didn't otherwise violate the Rules, or post a warning to the posters, then I can only assume that it was because they didn't feel otherwise legitimate topics should be deleted or locked.

I think there's something to be said about putting substance over form in order to encourage people to post legitimate questions and topics.

However, Joel, this brings me to the question. Why was a legitimate topic, OHIO KEEPING THE HOUSE, such a big deal that 2 other Moderators here felt the need to take public action beyond what I took yesterday?

If we're going to have Forum Rules, then the Rules need to be applied across the board and without prejudice.

So, Joel, I would appreciate your advising me if all topics without exception are to be deleted or locked if they contain ALL CAPS. Thanks.

Nancy

The thing is that when I see some of the posts and nobody reported it and then it has 5 replies on it, I leave it alone as people have already responded to the post and it is more of a nusance from the moderators deleting it rather than somebody typing in CAPS.

    Joel,

Thanks for your reply. That's why I didn't delete it or locke it because people were responding with replies.

    Joel,

Nice try on Chadwicks part there was one reply from myfrogger at the time the post should have been deleted:

frogger: "You may want to look at your finances again as you stated that you do not make enough money. If you can't make the mortgage payment you are going to have a problem.

Maybe others will have some constructive advise. GOOD LUCK"

which is not significant enough to warrant not deleting the post.

Chadwick: "By this time, several replies had already been posted to the topic. So I posted the following:"

If you note Chadwick made her reply after only one post was made from a member, so this is not where there were a string of posts before she decided to ignore the rules.

As far as old posts go this proves nothing, if it is not reported then it may slip by, however when a Moderator is notified and chooses to ignore the rules then they choose to ignore the rules for there own agenda.

There was not 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 replies there was one and this one showed up awhile after I sent the report this post message.

"However, Joel, this brings me to the question. Why was a legitimate topic, OHIO KEEPING THE HOUSE, such a big deal that 2 other Moderators here felt the need to take public action beyond what I took yesterday? "

Because Chadwick chose to make the rest of the Moderators who know their job look bad and opened up a area where first time posters can chose to ignore the rules, just post on the forums Chadwick is on make sure you have your caps lock on.

If she wants to tell the story about her not someone else then she should post her facts correctly.

I gave the poster a warning and didn't identify the person who had hit the Report the Post button. You chose to interject yourself when it was neither warranted nor appropriate.

And because of your interjecting yourself, a TCI member who had posted legitimate topic and questions was about to "move on to a site that is a little more concerned with the question at hand rather than whether some one is using capital letters..."

Fortunately, I was able to calm her down so she didn't yank her topic and she got some quality reply posts to it from other TCI members.

And as you well know, my name is Nancy Chadwick. If you can't remember the first name, then just remember "Ms. Chadwick.."

    Chadwick,

When you lock a post it is spelled lock not locke, so when it comes to names if you are insuating that I had anything to do with the post being locked, you are wrong.

12:21 tlatsa posted -The Original Post hardly counts as several posters it was the original.

"12:41 myfrogger posted" - Member Post
"12:44 ltatsa posted" - Poster posted this, it not considered a different member posting this is the original poster who violated the rules posting the first time.

"12:45 I posted" - It should have stopped here when you were aware it was in violation, where are the several posts in the above time line?

It's your credibility on the line here: You told Joel there were several posts so where are they? Did you delete some we don't know about?

These posts were after the fact you were aware that it was in violation of the rules as evidenced by the time lines:
