Edit & Not Delete

Where a post violates Forum Rules, I'm wondering if there would be a benefit in not deleting the post but rather editing it with the particular Mod saying somethin like: "your post has been deleted because of X, please read the Rules, etc. "

If a post is deleted, it disappears entirely. People don't see how many posts get deleted and they don't see who violated the Rules or for what reason. On the other hand, if the post is edited, the Mod's "message" remains in the Forum.

I guess what I'm thinking is that if people see posts regularly getting "edited" by the Mods, maybe more of them will read the Rules and think twice about disregarding them.

Any thoughts on this?

Good thought, and I believe I"ll start doing that...may even delete all but their names in some.

Might have to do that anyway, since trying to delete them doesn't work anymore.
