Finding A Vin # On A 1980 Fairmont Kingsley

hager profile photo

My Mother is in desperate need of her vin # on her Kingsley/ Fairmont mobile home. She lives in the state of Illinois and is NOT getting any cooperation from anyone. The hub plate has 3letters and 6 or so numbers with it on the rear outside wall. The DMV says this is not the number. Please help we are working on a deadline. Thanks! :-( [ Edited by hager on Date 08/14/2004 ]

It should be on the registration or certificate of title. If these are missing, just go to DMV and request a copy of the registration. They should be able to search by the registered owner's name. If they can't do that, search tax records by address and the VIN should be located within the tax records.

MAN...no need to do all that....look under the kitchen sink in the cabinet for a stuck on paper.....should find serial # there or in some cabinets around that area.
Find label number...the plate on exterior of home....write it down and send it to **Please See My Profile** ill look up the vin for ya...no problem

I am in the same boat. I lost the title to a 1972 New Yorker I bought a couple of years ago. I have been renting it out and the current renter wants to buy it. I cant find the title and have looking in all the usual places for the VIN or the Serial Number. No luck. I too am in Illinois and have found the DMV very unhelpful. The tax statement on the property doesn't include the VIn and as of right now I am at a loss as to what to do next.

The Paper stuck on a door in the cabinet is called the Data Plate it will give you the Wind Zone, Serial Number, and such like.

However, the other suggested sources are valid too should the Data PLate was removed.
