Do I Dare Knock On Doors?

browndog profile photo

I'm thinking about getting a list of foreclosures (before the auction) and approaching them in person. Knocking on doors and asking to buy their house seems a little scary but also effective. What is the general consensus here?

Do it. Keep in mind, you will never see them again, unless you are doing a deal with them.

I used to canvass for a decking company when I was in high school and sold Kirbys door to door in college, so for me, it isn't a really big deal.

BUT make sure you do your due dilligence on the properties, you don't want to waste your time.

I would recommend knocking on the door with an "Equity Purchase Agreem-
ent" in hand. Be very polite and put your-
self in their shoes. If you knock on enough doors, you will find some deals.

I've knocked on a few doors and even though I havent landed a deal, I still think it is a great thing to do. Currently Im laying low untill I get a little more cash. But I say get out there and knock on some doors, its all most fun some times, especaily when the Owner is drunk and carring on about god knows what. But if you live in a medium sized town or larger, try to focus on a certain area, driving all around town can be timely, costly, and most owners don't apreciate it when you are knocking on their door too late, one such owner scalded me.

    But Good luck,

Knocking on the door will put you a couple of steps ahead of those who use letters and postcards. You will be able to get a read if the homeowner is a suspect or prospect something a letter or postcard cannot gauge.
