Which Type Of Entity - GP,LP, LLP, LLC?
1. Which type of partnership should my husband & I create for a joint rental property (a duplex)? we are currently deciding if to live in one of the units, or keep it as a rental
2. Does it matter that the loan/property is in his name?
That is exactly what I have done.

Mine happens to be with Allstate. Most large insurance companies offer umbrella policies as long as you have both home and auto with them. They also usually require that you have high liability limits on your autos. Call your insurance company and ask them what they offer, what it covers and what changes to your other policies might be required.
just for another data point, mine is with Kemper. They write in CA.
