Sales Associate License

I'm considering taking a 63 hour course in a local real estate school that will grant me a real estate salesperson license. I understand that upon completion of the course and the test, I will have access to the MLS as long as I pay the yearly dues to the Realtors Association.

I have no interest in becoming a realtor or salesperson but I was hoping that I could learn a lot about the business by taking this course. My question is whether this license will in anyway hinder me when I buy and/or sell investment properties.

Thanks for your help,

Adam

I deal with an Investor who did the exact same thing. He said it was the best move he ever made.

He doesn't list his properties with his company.

    Adam,

It all comes down to time and money. As agent, I work with plenty of investors. As an investor, I would have a hard time making large purchasing decisions/ judgement calls everyday without complete access to the info. For me, it works great. As an agent though, it must be fully disclosed in whatever you do which can be a negative.

The time factor is much more than 63 hours because you will have to affiliate with a broker to get started. Depending on the broker, many will not hire part-timers. You just need to find the right fit and meet with several to discuss what you are trying to do, how will it help them, and how will it help you.
