Close Old Accts

Looking at a recent credit report, we have items on there from 8-10 yrs ago. Is it better to leave them on or ask they be removed. All of the accts are closed. Some were in good standing, others had some 30 days on them.
Also paying on a credit card, in good standing, will that help increase our scores? My score is 620, husbands 588.
Not great, but not terrible.

In general, lowering utilization will help improve scores. Two ways to do this: pay it down, or get a credit line increase.

As far as old accounts, even with lates they are probably doing you more good than harm by increasing your average age of accounts. If they're still open, use them a little now and then to keep them that way.

i believe the negative items only count on your score for 7 years, after that they drop off

no point in trying to have them removed if older than that

    wink
