Resource For Learning About Buying, Subdividing Ag. Land Inc. Tax Tips, Etc.

InActive_Account profile photo

Orlando is surrounded by orange groves. Since many of them are sprinkled through residential areas and / or clearly neglected, I assume they are there for agricultural tax exemptions.

I am wondering what the steps are to buying such a parcel, subdividing it, and breaking off and developing pieces while keeping as much exempt as possible and keepting the taxes as low as possible.

I also notice some striking anomalies in tax treatment of several seemingly similar parcels. Is there an article or resource that someone can point me toward to help me make sense out of this and get an idea how the process works?

Thank you.

I suggest you do some research on this site in the Forums and Articles. There is much information here. Also, look at the current zoning ordinance and zoning map and tax assessor info. These will tell you restrictions, exemptions, permitted uses, etc. Talk with the zoning officer as well.

Well, of course, Nancy Chadwick's book on land development would be a good place to begin. But I'm sure she is much to shy to mention that herself (plus it would be an ad). Is it an ad if I mention it?
