Construction Management Courses

Hello Gents,
I am looking at obtaining my G.C. license and putting up my first spec in 6-8 months. My question was if any of you know of any construction management courses either online or on campus that I can take to familiarize myself w/ common practices of a general contractor?

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :-o

Check with your local homebuilders association and see if they offer courses to get your license. Local community colleges and technical colleges offer construction management courses but it will take longer to get licensed.

The local branch of the National Builders Association has a lot of good course relating to constrution. I don't think they have courses specifically for Licensure. Look for a contractor's school. They should be listed in the yellow pages.

    Hello Shamund,

As someone else mentioned check with your local home builders association as they typically hold pre-licensure classes, as well as your community education center. You should be able to find course listing on the National Home Builders Associations site as well, which is www.nahb.org As far as becoming familiar with industry practices in one or two courses, I wish you the best of luck. Building is largely learned by trial and error unfortunately as what works for one typically doesn't work for all. grin

    Shamund,

You should check out the North Carolina Licensing Board for Contractors (http://www.nclbgc.net). Has a wealth of information regarding requirements and exam help.
