Staying Focused And Motivated

Hey,

Being successful in REI is all about numbers. In order to buy just one house, you have to see dozens and dozens and make a ton of offers. And after a few weeks (or months) of little or no progress, plus the standard negative response you will receive, sometimes it is hard to stay motivated. It gets harder and harder to see those houses.

With that in mind, I wanted to share an way of staying motivated and focused on success..

Each year, decide what your goals are for the year and translate that it to how it would change your life.

So for example, say you want to buy and sell three houses this year (a reasonable goal) and you want to make $30k.

Now making $30k is really nice, but when times are slow, staring at that number on a piece of paper is not going to do anything for you.

Instead, think about what are you going do with that $30k. Maybe you are going to pay off student loans, maybe buy your own house, maybe put the kids in private school...you get the idea, right?

Okay now that you have the changes in your life, you find PICTURES of what you want and make a collage (like we did in first grade). Glue them all to a 17 x 11 piece of paper (that's letter size if folded in half).

So for example, if you want to buy a new car, find a magazine or brochure with a nice picture of the car and cut it out. You can even put a picture of yourself in the car.

You want to pay off those student loans? Get a picture of a pile of bills and put an X over it. Whatever you feel like.

Private school for the kids? Put a picture of your kids in front of Harvard (or wherever).

Maybe it is a dream vacation (or two or three or four). Get the travel brochure and cut out the picture of the perfect beach. Take the old picture of the family in and drop it in front.

This works no matter what stage of life you are at.

After a rough day, open this "page of dreams" and you will find the energy to keep going.

I hope this helps!

I think that dreams are fine and certainly have their place in your life, but to focus only on what you hope to get from REI, or any endeavour is pointless.

You need to work your arse off, study, learn from anyplace or any person you can, and most importantly, TAKE THE FIRST STEP. Too many people sit there and dream about what could be but never get any further.

How many programs has Carlton Sheets sold? Probably over 100,000, and how many success stories? Probably 1000. So what happend to the rest? They never started, or they lost focus!

Perhaps I am too cold, but if you want to be a success, work hard, work smart, but most importantly, stay focused! Sure, keep an eye on your dreams, but create a strategy, execute it, and don't let anything get in your way!
