Public Records

I am planning on searching the public records at the county courthouse and was wondering if there is a fee you must pay before doing so.

It will depend on your county. Think of it as a field trip and go down to the court house. Pull the records and look at them. Then also ask if they are available online, if there is a mail out, etc. Each county is different and each department within the county is different. Once you know what is available at the courthouse, and what is available from other sources, then you can make a decision.

My county has foreclosures, judgements, liens and others for free on the Internet. But if I want probate or evictions I must go down to the courthouse. The county next door has evictions, judgments, liens, and foreclosures for free on the Internet. But if you want probate you must pay to access from the Internet.

Each county is different and I have even found that by asking around in the department you can find some little know tools. Many departments have someone that gets tired of the questions and puts together a report or data CD that they will mail you for a small fee.
