I'm a beginning real estate investor and know that I will need to have access to legal advice for real estate deals. Is pre-paid legal the way to go? Please advise........

    Welcome Mark,
Prepaid legal will only scatch the surface. You should think about getting a RE attorney on your team. Not only for the guidance, but also for the leads. They know a lot of inside information that you will want to have access to. What area of RE are you pursuing?

I used to have a pre-paid legal plan. Then I used the lawyer once for a transaction and was really disappointed with the quality of service. Plus my policy had limits on what I could the discounts for, what was free, etc. Basically it was for personal/family only - any business related issues would be charged at the regular rate.

Needless to say the policy you are looking at may be quite different. Just be sure to understand what you can and cannot use the service for and what your termination conditions are (as in do you need to pay for the full year if you decide to quit early, etc.). Then I'd give the lawyer a run soon so you know each other and you can size them up before any big $$ are involved.

While you're getting into this, you may want to hook up with a local investor/Mentor who's investing in the same way that you want to in your area.

They may have all the paperwork, prepared or reviewed by a laywer, that you'll need and save you many hours and dollars.

I'd start with your local RE group.

I use pre-paid legal, while I still looking for an r.e. atty. In the past I have called and had an atty. talk me through a few deals and review my contracts, for the annual fee. I have not had any problems with them. When I do find an r.e. atty. I will still keep them. they just work for me and my business.

The area of real estate that I am pursuing is probate. I've posted for advice, mentoring, partner(s), mentor(s), all to no avail, thus far.
I am part of an investment club. When I've asked about probate, the leader of the investment club says she is not very knowledgeable about that area although she says will have Scott Rister as one of our speakers this year. I've also inquired with other investors -- one fellow investor says he knows of someone but that's all he would divulge.
It's not been easy but that's ok; I've just received Scott Rister's probate profit machine info. in the mail and I am devouring this info. I won't stop -- I WILL SUCCEED!!
