There is a REI class for beginners held in Marietta. This class was highly recommended to me, I was told it covered everything I needed to get started including how to find properties. I am attending tonight and will let you know how it goes. The number is 770-216-1636
I live in Woodstock too and am also just starting out in REI. If you (or anyone else on the north side of Atlanta) ever want to grab a beer and compare notes, drop me a line.
Pros: The guy really knows the business. He does a good job of simplifying the different areas of investing such as foreclosures, short sales, no money down, lease option, etc. He knows the Atlanta market well and can give you detailed info of what to look for in your area.
Cons: He moves fast and sometimes seems a little unorganized so if your a beginner you may leave a little confused but, he will allow you to come back as often as you want within a 6 month period free.
bottom Line: Although I did not leave the class with the feeling I can close a blockbuster deal tomorrow, I do have a better understanding of what I need to do to get started, what I need to look for in my neighborhood, and where to get the resources I need to be successful. It was a small class but I also got the opportunity to exchange business cards with some realtors and a construction company that alone made it worth the money.
To sum it up, here are the top five points I would use to describe his program.
1) Usable update information about how to get started and become successful in Atlanta including where to network and how to find foreclosures before others do.
2) Simplified explanations of the different techniques used in REI including no money down and lease options.
3) It is possible to get lost so have at least an entry level understanding of REI and bring a pen and paper.
4) To get the most out of his class ask questions, he is good at answering them.
5) He has a mentoring program (which I have not yet taken so I can’t comment on).

Ads in newspapers, signs, internet, REI Meetings would be the best. Networking with other ivestors, real estate agents, bankers, brokers, Ect.
