How To Contact Owner Of Abandoned Property

Please post your advice. I have came across a distressed property. I have called the tax assesors office and found out that the property is owned by a 94 year old woman. I believe that she has passed away because the property is vacant and there is no for sale sign or anything. The mail is piled up and the lawn is awful. The tax assesors office say that she is still the owner even though she has passed this property on. I went down to the clerk recorders office and I have found out that the lady has passed this property down to someone. I cant find the person that she has passed this property to because he is not listed. She also owes $3200.00 in taxes. This seems like a good one and I dont want to pass it up. I am very new to real estate investing so I appreciate anyones advice. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_eek.gif"> [ Edited by jazzysweet7 on Date 03/10/2004 ]

I would check for the Death NOtice. If there is one (if she passed) Look to see who are her survivors. It shoudl say a son, daughter, or husband. Use that. Look up the addresses of those individuals. Write them a letter, first saying how sorry you are about the passing. Tell them you are looking for a home in the area, and that you are curious to if they are willing to sell. Chances are, if its vacant, the family is discussing what to do with it.

Go to you local court house and check with estate probate office. You should learn who the admin is for her estate.
