What Business Opportunities Have Been Created By The Real Estate Slow Down And Lending Meltdown?

bnwbaron profile photo

So much has been happening in the RE industry this year. Lots of people in So. Cal who were in the business are going back to catering, bar tending, or whatever they did before they became superstar lenders or realtors.

I have been thinking……What non-RE related BUSINESS would thrive based on the current situation in the industry.

What do you guys think would do well these days?

Thanks, Brian

Yen- Japanese currency- exchange rate fairly poor historically speaking.

Yuan- Chinese currency- exchange rate very good relative to value, and liable to appreciate steeply relative to the U.S. Dollar.

So much "China crap" on the market it seems like it would be difficult to find an opening, and prices for Chinese goods are rising rapidly. I think you would do better looking to Indonesia or Viet Nam.

    Bargain-

You are correct about lumping all Chinese goods under one label- there are indeed many high quality products coming out of China, and I use a lot of Chinese product in my rehabs. I just got in the habit of using that label when I was working for a jewlery maunufacturer- he hated the cheap, generally low quality, and unimaginiative competition that has such a large market share. Our job was to be so fast that we could compete with dollar a day labor while providing a unique, artistic product- no mean feat. I sure learned to work that hammer!

I still think Viet Nam and Indonesia are better prospects for long term import ventures- great craftsmen, cheap labor, and slower economic growth. Also, less competiton selling the unique products they produce. But I agree the basic idea is sound!

    bnwbaron,

I would rather think that tying into the current market makes sense, like this person did.

Seems like there is plenty of opportunity still within the industry, just get creative.

    Chris,

Both of those are good calls. The tax one is really good if you are in an area where they do it that way. I appealed in Vegas by letter. If you could do it that way, you could improve your time use, but maybe at the cost of effectiveness loss by not being there in person.

My thought-Credit repair. It has to be a killer business these days. Think of all the bad credit reports out there these days. One of my renters has a half dozen bad entries on his name that clearly belong to his ex-wife, yet they are sitting there on his report. Must be lots like that out there.

    Take care, Brian
