Anybody Know Why Dogs Show Their Teeth?

Wingnut profile photo

After watching 12+ hours of football today, I was too tired to take the mutt for a walk. Needless to say, she started showing her teeth to me. What do you think?, Maybe I could train her to do that after a homeowner says "no" after I go in and make a "low-ball" offer on their property.

Maybe she is a Michigan fan? Maybe LSU is her team?

    Wingnut:
It was past time for a walk. Your mutt may have some dominance issues with you (many people's dogs do) and was telling you "take me out or else."

There is a program called "NILIF" (nothing in lifeis free" that teaches us humans how to express our leadership to the dog in their language. Most of us spoil our dogs and don't realize that we are telling the dog we are not in charge, they are.

Some examples of NILIF are: not letting the dog go through a doorway first, do not let the dog up on furniture (this conveys importance to the dog - but one of mine sleeps with us anyways), not petting the dog when they want to be petted (in dog society, the alpha can get attention anytime they want, but not a lower dog), making the dog sit for his supper, and sit before you open the door to the outside.

There;s a forum called www.realitybitesdogtrainingforum.com. Some of the members can be harsh in what they tell you about training the dog, but most are nice and helpful.
