Postcard Success Rates As You Continue To Mail

chriseaker profile photo

I've heard from many sources that your success rate with direct mail goes up as you continue to mail to the same targeted group of people. Is this right? How much does it go up? I've been mailing about 600 postcards a week the last 2 weeks and I've received 2 calls from each mailing. I have 4 batches of those, and every 4 weeks I will start over with the 1st batch. I'm on the 1st go round right now. Can I expect to receive more calls the next go round and the next?

I would like to hear an update in a few weeks to see how the numbers perform over time. Will you be able to keep up posted?

What sort of service or deal are you offering wiht the post cards?

I'll try to remember to come back with some follow up. If anyone has any experience with this already, please share.

I sent a series of 3 letters. Each was in an envelope with a hand signed letter. The first was plain. The second had 'Second Notice' printed on the outside. The last mailing had 'Final Notice' printed on the outside and included a business card. I got 3 times as many calls from the final notice as I did from the previous two.

What this letter to pre-foreclosures? Over what timeframe were the letter mailed? I've got about 2500 addresses that I divided up over 4 weeks. So every 4 weeks, they will receive another card of mine. The 2nd round starts next week. I'm usually getting around 2-3 calls each week from about 650 cards which is about 0.3-0.5% responce on the 1st go round. I'm looking forward to seeing the responce go up as the weeks progress. My goal is to be the first person who comes to mind when they decide to sell.

    chriseaker,

You've got the right idea. When using direct mail, the more times your prospects see the message, the more credibility you gain. When a prospect sees your message time and time again they begin to realize that you aren't just some seminar graduate, but instead, your here to stay. I have heard different numbers from different sources but I have heard that most people won't even consider a product or service until they've seen the marketing message 5 to 7 times. This means that you should definetly market to the same list over and over on a consistent schedule.

My experience? I am in the process of sending 7 postcards to a targeted list of 1,800 addresses over a 21 week period (once every three weeks). I just sent out the third installment last week and I had 9 calls in 2 days. For all three mailings I have had a total of about 16 calls, again, 9 of them were from the third mailing alone. I suspect that as the targeted list continues to get hit, my response rate will continue to increase.

I use both postcards and letters, I send them both at the same time. I dont put the postcard in an envelope so they have no choice but to look at it. If the person skims their mail and tosses junk mail then the postcard is effective because they see it quickly, but if the person opens their mail then the letter is effective, either way I have covered both types of people. I also have better success not mentioning the word foreclosure which brings up negative emotions with some people. Average call backs range from 2-5% weekly.
