Opinions/Ideas Please

ready2go profile photo

I have went over almost the whole Marketing Froum, and seen different items.
However I am trying to get some opinions from anyone on if there are better times to send postcards over letters or visa versa.
Should I target a certain market with Letters and a different with postcards.

Just looking for some opinions. What have any of you experienced.

I have 2 different postcards and 2 different letters, 1 of each for out of towners, 1 of each for pre-foreclosures, and other scenarios.

Any help would be great.

I just read a post that a guy sent 200 postcards and got no calls and then sent 200 leters and got 8 or 10 calls. Depending on how they are written, letters probably seem a little more personal. keep in mind the potential seller of a home FSBO or in pre-foreclosure is going to get bombarded with postcards telling them "I will buy your house" or "I will sell your house". letters take a little bit longer to send so they are probably more accepted. But you may want to try both, just send one and if you get no calls send the other. I sent a lot of postcards once and got no calls, so I think next time I will send letters. good luck.

    ready2go,

Both letters and postcards are effective. If someone sends postcards and doesn't get a response, I would say that either the message or the list are should be changed before assuming that postcards were the problem.

The advantage to postcards is that you don't have to get it opened. That is one big hurdle with direct mail letters. Make sure you have a strong headline. The disadvantage is that you have less space to deliver your marketing message. You can send out large postcards, though. I have used postcards the size of half of a sheet of paper for example.

The advantage to letters is that you can deliver more of your message and can make it look more personal. The downside is gettting it opened. Some quick tips to get it opened: hand address the envelope, don't put a biz name in the return address and use a real stamp (not metered postage).

I would suggest using both letters and postcards. You should hit your list more than once. Try a postcard first, then hit them with a letter 7-10 days later. Then send another postcard. Mix up your media. Some people will respond more to the one and some more to the other.

    Good luck,
