HOA Trouble For Signs

I was just wondering how many of you have had HOA problems with signs. For instance, I live on a corner lot, and if I were to invest in properties in my neighborhood, I would certainly place signs in my yard to direct toward the other. I would also think that I would want the biggest, most obnoxious sign possible on the actual sale property. In fact (and I may be off base here)... but I don't see any reason not to get some huge sign (pick your neighbors, $500 reward or some such) and just move it from property to property. What's the biggest craziest sign you've seen for this purpose?

Do the pros here generally check out all the HOA guidelines and adhere to them, or just put up a sign and hope to sell it before anyone raises a stink?

Any thoughts?

There are a couple of issues involved here.

Condo associations and homeowners' associations often have restrictions about for sale and open house signage. Some are more restrictive than others (like size, how long the sign can be left up, color schemes, etc.). So you'd need to check the rules & regs.

Where the property is in a builder's community and the builder is still selling homes, there may be deed restrictions relating to resales and signage.

The municipality's zoning ordinance usually has provisions and regulations relating to types of signage, including for sale signage.

Last but not least, you would need the permission of the owner on whose property you want to place a "directional" or other sign.
