Tenant Disappeared!
I own a commercial building in New Jersey.
One of my tenants just packed up and left one weekend.
A month later we recieved a letter in our mailbox asking us to please use the security deposit for the next months rent and that she can no longer pay the lease.
Come to find out she left because another location offered her 4 months free rent.
We filed a suit and she hired an attorney. We offered to settle for 3 months rent of the one year lease, and they declined.
Can I hold them responsible for the remainder of the lease? What is the law for this in New Jersey? We did rent the space a month later.
