Is Setting Up An LLC Online A Good Idea?

 profile photo

I can see that it is cheaper to set up an LLC online, but are forms and the language generic enough to ensure this is a good option? It seems like the forms would have to be customized, notorized? I'm tempted by the price, but leary.... Does anyone know what all is involved and would anyone recommend this option? :-D

I didn't do my first one or two online, but do so now.

    Couple of things here:
    1. Investigate your state's LLC requirements (they may be posted online). If it seems do-able, it would be cheaper to do it yourself, BUT you should really understand what's involved.
    2. Online is OK, too (I did mine that way), but it was not cheaper than if I did it myself. However, I didn't have the time or the patience (or the legal savvy) to wade through all the rigamarole, so I paid to have someone do it for me.
One thing I would counsel: try to find a site that has offices in your state, so that you can be more confident that your LLC conforms to YOUR state's requirements.
Some sites offer cheaper setup fees, but (at least in IL) there are yearly requirements that must be met by your LLC--if you can get that "maintenance" help in your deal online, it may be worth the extra fees.
PM me if you want the web address of the site I used.
    Andy
