Granite and marble slabs are cheap (400 dollars for a 10'x6') and broken peices(counter top size) are even cheaper. The expense is in the labor. and the tools are cheap too. seen them at Home Depot.

Does anyone know where i can find a how to book . or a web site for instructions on how to cut and polish the stuff..ive looked everywhere, i think

imagin putting granite in your houses for not much more than formica

This is the one trade I have not been able to train any of my crews from Central America. They can lay tile better then anyone I have ever seen. They do brick one by one not like us much slower but I accept it cause the workmanship is good. Even the goodies like drywall and framing not a sweat but Marble No.

I have several sources here in the San Fernando Valley for Marble installations but it is still expensive. I would love to use it, much more elegant then tile and on the heavy duty upgrades it is used but the cost is high. Granite tops are it.

When and if you find out anything please let me know.

I am going to meet a cutter tomorrow. he works out of his garage so i am going to snoop around.

I think you would be impressed Lufos with what i am doing to my house as a test along with the bennifits of living here.

I own my house for 55% of FMV. bought it from hud 7 years ago. It is a typical Texas 80's built spec 1400 sqft home. This is what ive done so far:

    1. Box florecent lighted 7 foot ceeiling with 30' cabnits kitchen is now 11 foot vaulted to the roof line. new 36" cabnits. busted out wall into LR with bar-top and 12v lighting. recessed a 9 foot cabnent into wall for pantry and a cappuchino machine(plumbed)

    2. 8 foot popcorn informal dining is now 10 foot ceiling smooth with recessed lighting

    3. took all popcorn off ceilings in house(cheated used 1/4 sheet rock on top of it).

    4. 1/2 stained corner trim on all corners are now bull nosed.

    5. replaced carpet an lenolium in LR,KITCH,entry and put 5"plank pecan hard wood floor. (used cabin grade! 3 dollars a squar ft.) on a diagnol. awesome!! looks like a loft down town

    6. florescent furdowns in the bathrooms over sinks are now texture to the ceiling NO WALPAPER.

    7. Plain tub is now garden tub in mas bath

    8. vinyl in the bathrooms are now 16x16 slate.

    9. bedrooms are now burber carpet.

    10. faux valted the mas bed room ceiling installed recessed lighting.

    11. sliding glass door is now a french door.

    12. The LAST stop is the granite research!!!

    Total monies invested is 20,000.00

i still want to do the upper end houses like i told you about but, i think I can do this to plain jane track homes (cause there are soooo many) and give them power selling features that you would only see in 1/2mm homes plus and up

    what do you think??
