A lot of people on here seem to swear by them. But they could be shills. IMHO, you can do a lot of it yourself and leave the toughies for LL. But YMMV

    Your Mileage May Vary.

Internet shorthand for "what you are going to experience if you try this may not be what others have experienced in the past (for a variety of reasons, as well as the element of pure chance)."

How do I do it myself? Can you refer me to a book or course about how to do it myself? Or is it just a few simple steps to achieve successful results? If there is only a few simple steps, do you mind sharing them? If there is alot more to it, where do I go to get that info?
Thanks in advance for any info you are able to give. And feel free to PM me flacorps and anyone else knowledgable about this subject. Also, thanks for all u guys input.

Lexington law works well. The one I found to work the best is from a company called Acropolis Financial based out of Clearwater. They can clean credit up anywhere.

Their number is 1-866-206-2276. Ask for Claus. Let him know Jim referred you.

Let me know how you like it.

The meat can be found at www.creditboards.com, www.creditinfocenter.com and www.creditnet.com. Here it is in a nutshell:

    1. Dispute all but the last two years of addresses off your reports to weaken attribution to all the old TLs you want to see vanish.

    2. When the addresses are gone, dispute those TLs as "not mine" by certified mail, return receipt requested.

    3. What comes back verified should be disputed every 60 days with the dispute directed to a different element of the TL (balance, date of last activity, account number, dates of delinquent payments, etc.), until all elements are exhausted.

    4. Circle back around to "not mine"

Meanwhile, on a separate track (actually, a month or so before you start disputing TLs), you are pursuing "Debt Validation" with every Collection Agency that is outside the statute of limitations or has been paid. DV can also be used judiciously with unpaid CAs that are inside SOL. You are also writing to original creditors regarding any inaccuracies in the reporting they're doing.

This is called the "1-2 punch" and the objective is make the CAs and OCs chary of reporting or verifying ANYTHING to the CRAs. Or, in the event they do, the reporting is likely a technical violation of the FCRA, or the FDCPA, both of which deserve your close scrutiny so that you are intimately familiar with their hypertechnicalities; also brush up on the Spears case and the Wollman letter.

If you research each and every CA and OC you're dealing with on the aforementioned websites usiing their search features, as well as the other stuff, you should be well-armed for battle.

    Good hunting.

I have been working with Lexington Law for a few weeks now and I have to say that so far I am NOT HAPPY. I was told I would have a personalized consultation, which never happened. When I received the email to dispute what Items I wanted, I called Lexington and told them I did not want to dispute all of my items, they told me to put my comments in the "notations box" at the bottom of the page, so I did. I asked them to call me before they sent out any letters because I did not want to dispute 2 items, but wanted to offer them a full payoff for removal of any negative comments on my credit report. Lexington sent out the dispute letters anyway and basically admitted to me that they were unorganized and missed my comments. They also informed me, at this time, that they do not negotiate with the creditors, but only dispute with the CRA's. I was told on my initial call that they would negotiate with creditors and would receive a full consultation after I paid my processing fee of $75 and we would come up with a game plan on how to dispute each item. The so called "consultation" was nothing more than me going to a website and marking which items I wanted to dispute. So basically I consulted with myself and paid them $75 for NOTHING. I will keep everyone posted on the progress, but so far I would suggest to do the stuff yourself and save your money. All you are basically doing is paying them to send a generic letter out to a credit reporting agency. Don't expect any exact game plan or strategy on how to systematically go after the negative items. I will give them a month or so and if I'm still not satisfied, I will quit using them. I would love to hear what other people have to say who have actually used them.

How do their rates compare to LL?

That is the big advantage with LL is that they are cheap but it sounds like you get what you pay for. I guess there is something to be said for doing things in volume but if there is no personal contact that will not help most people.

I will say that I sent an email to their CS to inquire when I was thinking about using them and it was never replied to. Basically I wanted to know if they would help settle debts to get them cleaned off. Which it looks like they do not do... oh well.

I will continue the journey on my own...

    Yipes, TD1,
Don't be discouraged. I filed a Ch13 and my wife filed a Ch 7 in 2001. Since that time we have applied for credit jsut to get the deniel letters. We then wrote to the credit bureau's to get copies of our credit reports (It's free if you've been turned down). you can just request one and pay for it. After we got our reports, we began writing each bureau. Any item we saw that was not correct, we disputed. This can be anything from wrong Birthdate, previous address, amounts owed (even if you just paid yesterday), ect.. You need to be specific as to what you want them to do (i.e. remove it, correct it, etc..). When we got the results, we began seeing thing come off the report. make sure you keep good records as to when you send your letters and when you followed up. Persistance will win out in this case. I never used Lexington, but from the sounds of it, this is what they do.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am not discouraged. I just realize like anything worthwhile you have to work a little harder and it takes a little time!

It's really not that hard. The issue is time.

Each time you write the CB's they have up to 30 days to reply. This time of year is the best. With so many people applying for credit for Christmas purchases, it's hard for them to keep up.

If they don't reply within the 30 day period, they are required by law to remove the items you desputed.

this question is for JJETTs4, does this company Acropolis have a website that you could offer or PM me.
    thanks

I used Lexington Law and after spending about $400. I fired them. I agree with the the other comments about how unorganized they are.

I sent letters myself and had come to find out sometimes the info. you send to defend yourself to the credit reporting agencies is only used against you!

I then hired Bradley Ross Law out of Indiana that was recommended by a friend. In one month they have done more than I did on my own in 8 months!
They seem to work with alot of people who have gone through a BK and they LISTENED to me and followed up.

I have noticed this is not a overnight process and I am disputing ligit errors only!

Ditto flacorps- There is nothing any of these credit repair places can do for you that you cannot do for yourself. Nor can they get it done any faster. The "secret" (if there is one)is to be persistant and keep sending out those letters of dispute. It works. There is tons of good info on the sites fla mentioned.

I agree with the rest that you can do more for yourself if you just keep track of what you are doing. I got 3 collections deleted and also two chrgeoffs. Raised my credit score close to 80 points. It took some time and I had to try more than once, but it was alot shorter than wating 7 years for it to drop off
