Is This A Good Deletion Letter?

canaanelijah profile photo

Please let me know if this is an ok letter to send to an collection agency? If not can you show me how I may improve it? I have three bills I need deleted ASAP. One of them the Radio shack one, we paid a settlement agreement a year ago, but they kept it on file and now we lost the leetr saying they'll remove it. Now we think its better just to pay the remaining balance if they'll remove it! Praying they will. We need our score bumped up soon.

The other two are the same agency for a small amount and they mentioned they don't DO delete for pays. We are desperate! Here it is. Thanks in advance, Alida

Re: Name of Account:___________________________

Account number:__________________________

To Whom It May Concern:

Confirming our telephone conversation on ( date ), you agreed to accept $_________ as payment in full for the above account.

By my making the above payment, your representative agreed to delete both the charge off and late payment notations listed on my ( name of credit bureau) and that after you receive the payment, the notation "paid as agreed" will appear on my credit report.

If this is correct, please sign and date this letter and return a copy to me. Upon receipt of this signed letter, I will immediately mail your payment of $__________.

If you paid these bills you should first try having the credit bureaus investigate them. they can do this much faster and with better results

CAs that don't DO delete for pays ... usually do. You just need to be a pain in the ass who they conclude won't pay without a delete. At that point, they cave. If they don't cave, what do you care...a paid collection and an unpaid one are scored the same.

flacorps, you're saying that a paid collection is scored the same as an unpaid collection. But if they agree to delete the listing in your credit after you've paid, wouldn't that increase your score???

Of course they may say that they will remove it, but once you've paid, and they don't remove it, it's hard to enforce their agreement, correct?

That's why you want them to send you a letter saying the TL is to be deleted, and it's better if there's a reason in there, such as "The above account has been paid/cancelled with our office. Reason for deletion: IMPROPER NOTIFICATION. ADDRESS ERROR" ... that gives the CRA no excuse not to delete (sometimes they use lack of a reason as an excuse not to delete).
