I am new to this and need to know. Is anyone / everyone really making money. Or does everyone get into real estate make a few dollars then write a book on what did or didnt work and get rich off the book sales.

Not trying to sound disgruntled just curious. I have the ambition just wanna know if there is really somethign out trhere before I go spending all my $$

Quote:Is anyone / everyone really making money.Yes and No. There are some who are making money through real estate investing. Not everyone is making money.

Many are making good money and have very good cash flows. The process is methodical and deliberate but some have made it rather quickly. My belief is that making a good plan is very valuable. You can see what your status is at each stage of the plan. Then you work to make the plan come true. Of course, you will and should update it.

    Hi Steve,

It is another one of those things in life, that you get back what you put into it.

I have met a lot of people who were interested in real estate, who had good intentions, and who read every book and course that they could get their hands on. These are the same people that go around and tell people that they are in the real estate business and are going to make some serious money some day . . . . yet they never seek out and or act out on opportunities!

If you want to be a farmer, go out and learn the Farming business and apply yourself. If you want to be a Car salesman, learn about the cars, spruce up on your salesmanship and go out there and sell like crazy! The same thing applies in the real estate business! If you apply yourself, follow through, and stay tenactious, you can make more money than you've ever dreamed! But just by dreaming alone wont you you one penny!

I'm having the time of my life, and I dont plan on writing any books.

    Best of Success!

    Thanks everyone.
As I stated this thread was not meant to start a flame war or anything. I was just curious. (maybe i could have stated it diferently) I am at a point where I have read alot and I see a light, I cant tell how far away it is or tell you the color but i do see it. My head is swimming and I want to dive right in. but I dont dive in for fear of what I dont know. this board is great and i have learned a great deal here thanks to everyone

Pull the trigger....it's the safest investment you can make these days.

As they say, JUST DO IT! The first one is always the scariest, and I'm always a bit nervous (maybe nervous isn't the right word) even now. But, yes, you can make money. I agree with the other posts....you get what you put in. I have two small kids, a full-time job, and got up early every morning, worked every lunch hour, and worked an hour or so each night after I tucked the kids in. After 11 months of doing this, my efforts bring me about $1500 per month positive cash flow. Not enough to quit (yet) but we are well on our way!

I also agree with the post that says you do need to have a plan (that can be revised) and you do need to be methodical.

One last thing, do at least one thing every day to further your business. Some days, I do 50 things, other days, its hard to manage one.

    Good luck!
    Shirley

I would suggest hitting up a local real estate investors meeting in your area (if there is one) There you will bump into successful people, who will most likely offer a helping hand while you go about learning the ropes.

Ask your parents how much they bought their house for. Then ask them what they could sell it for today. Now imagine it was you and not them. Now imagine you had 10 and not 1.

hibby, that was tight! i'm taking that last quote - i can't help it.

... Now imagine you had 10 and not 1.

    Hi Stephen,
I'm a newbie like you. The best thing to do is seek rei groups on your area.
    Where do you live?
You never know, maybe your neighbor is an investor! Turns out my neighbor is a landlord!
    small world...

Out of the ones on here who are making a good living out of REI, how many of you actually consider yourselves "successful" or "wealthy" and why? I stress those two words because I believe everyone has their own definition of those words in regards to their lifestyles. Not trying to start any flaming, just curious...

  • Shirley4th December, 2003

Well, even though I don't consider myself making a "good living" at REI (yet), I will throw in my 2 cents worth. For me, being successful means being wealthy, but being wealthy (for me) simply means we are comfortably supporting ourselves and don't have to spend our time working for a paycheck (making money for someone else). I don't ever expect (or want to) live in a mansion with servants or anything......a nice house in Montana would be great!
