Re-keying The Lock

ClickMe profile photo

Hi,
My partner and I just closed our very first investment house last week.

It is a HUD house, and I was suggested to change the lock as soon as possible. Luckily there was Lowes close to the house so we were able to have it rekeyed. But what if there is no Lowes or Home Depot around?

What is the common practice? Should I have Locksmith come to the property and change the lock? I wonder if that would be expensive???

Please help this newbie with very basic question...

Thanks! grin

What if there were no Home Depot???? Now there's a sad question!

Buy an extra doorknob/deadbolt that are already keyed. When you need to change the lock, switch them.

In my area I can get each lock changed and master keyed with a locksmith for $8 each. It's not to hard to do it yourself either, you just need few specialized tools. [ Edited by hibby76 on Date 05/11/2004 ]

    hibby76,

Thanks! I cannot believe I couldn't think of doing that! I guess I was so excited at getting this house and couldn't think logically LOL

Thanks again for the quick reply!
