RE Agent/REI Question....

voyko profile photo

I am a newbie investor and thinking of taking the test to become a licensced Agent. I have heard that there might be a conflict of interest in doing this. Can anyone give me some direction on this, as I have interviewed many RE agents and none so far have my same vision in RE investing in Rehab projects-Distressed Properties.

Please advise, thanks

Dan

I don't believe that becoming an agent will hinder you. You just need to make sure that as an agent that you disclose that information to the Seller/Buyer whenever doing a deal. You can gain access to the MLS which I think is a plus, however to invest in RE its definitely not a requirement to be an agent. The choice is a personal one.

    Hello
Being a agent myself i think that having your licencse is the ground floor education you could use to become a investor. There are a lot of agents out there who do not believe in creative investing so i am not surprised at your comment . So having your license cant hurt you ...just dont fall into conventional realtor thinking

    Voyco San,

I would take the license. It is sort of fun and you get to hang out with some very interesting people from whom you can learn a lot of things. Some of these things can be helpful.

The exposure to information and learning where it all is. Most important. Then you twist your head and look at things like an Investor, and there my friend is where your edge really comes into being.

Learn it all, not just a few little tricks. Times change and each period has its own little insertions for profit.

Besides, its a lot of fun. Lucius

    Hello all,

I have also been thinking about becoming a licensed RE agent and have been wondering about the pro/con's of it.

Based on this (and other similar threads on other boards) there is very little downside and some definite upside on the education side.

    Now my question is:

Where/how do I go about this?

Besides just doing a general search on google can anyone suggest from personal experience the best school/program to get ready for the exam?

    Sincerely,

    Eric S.

I'm new to REI also, but I have talked to an agent or two and they have indicated some ethical issues that are involved in creative investing where it may appear that they are taking advantage of their clients.... I don't have specifics, just what I heard.

Also, some agencies cost a fortune to get into- so try to find one that will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Let me know how it goes??

Henny Youngman once said, "Doc, my arm hurts when I do this. What should i do?? " The doctor's advice, "Don't do that.".

If there are ethical issues, then remove them as an investor. It's that simple.
