Please Help Me Make A Decision

I asked a similar question about 6 months ago. Got some great responses and a lot of help. Now some things have progressed and I need your help again.

I work overseas. I'm planning on moving back to the states about this same time next year. When I return to the states, I will be leaving a great salary and all the perks of corporate life to head out on my own as a full time REI. Between now and then, I will be in the states on two occasions; two weeks in June and again for two weeks over the Dec/Jan holidays. I have several rental properties, but I don't have a personal residence for my family and me. My question is when do you think I should buy my personal residence? I don't want to make mortgage payments on a house that's standing empty. But I also don't want to wait until the last minute or till I'm self-employed, to purchase my home.

Thanks all

    Mark

If by where you meant what city, then the answer is probably in the Buffalo area where I have my properties and where my parents live. Although I've also considered Chicago and the Tampa area.

If by where you meant what sort of property, then the answer is SFH, 4bd, 2.5br, 2700+sq.ft., etc.

You might look around for someone wanting to sell there house now but not move until later. Perhaps an add in the local paper:

PLANNING TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR but could use some cash now? I'm looking to purchase a house for occupancy in the spring of 2005. Would lease the house back to you in the interrium.

Ask around with real estate brokers, explain your situation. Who knows?
