Morgage

I recently ran across an abandoned property. the house in is pretty bad shape and hasnt been lived in for two years. I would like to buy the house but I cant find the owner. I found out the owners name and her address but when I went there she had moved again. I know the property has back taxes on it, and I suspect it probably has morgage owed to a bank but I dont know how to go about getting it from them. or finding out if it does indeed have morgage owed. please help

If there is a legal mortgage on the property it would recorded at the courthouse attached to the deed.

Follow the money trail!! Get the address and name of the person who LAST paid taxes on the property. Compare that to the mortgae. Possibly deed list book and page in the mortgage book. There are deed books which you can look up by address or grantor/grantee if you look up the proerty address it list the tax parcel. The tax parcel will lead you to the tax record. Write them. If mortgage get the name and address of the lender and inquire of them if they still have the mortgage. They MAY or MAY NOT talk to you. Public record information at the registry of deeds is your best bet. Also as I learned on this group, go to the neighbors around the property and ask where the owner is? Or who it last was? Sometimes they know.
