Effective Direct Mail Program

Hi:
Soon, I will be in the market to do a direct mail campaign and I need some tips on how to do it. I want to buy a good program that presents strategies on how to put together a good direct mail campaign and provides sample letters/materials to use. Should I buy Richard Roop? Ron Legrande Guerilla Marketing?
I would prefer to hear suggestions from those investors who have bought, tried AND had results with a particular program, although all suggestions are welcome smile

    I've found postcards to be good, the usps program is a godsend, you can send full colored, customized postcards for 41 cents each without leaving your chair =) And you can upload the addresses via excel or a text file

    I can't be of any help here but I'm in the same place you are .Once you decide which to use would you let me know how it goes and what program you used?
    If I get there first I'll do the same.
