Anyone From Portland Oregon? I Need Advice.

Samoanboy profile photo

Hello, I am new to this board and I am just looking for advice on investing. My wife and I have about 150k to invest and we are really interested in getting involved with some real estate.

I attended a recent seminar of Russ Whitney and felt maybe that would be a great way of getting some knowledge but after listening to spiel after spiel It just didn't sit right. As I browse the net for some reviews I stumbled onto this board and really I am thankful. My wife and I have canceled our appt. with Russ Whitney oppting to just hopefully get some cheap courses on entry level real estate knowledge.
I am asking anyone for some input and advice as to aquireing knowledge on investing and picking up real estate and any books that people would recommend.
Any advice is better than none because we have alot to lose and I understand the correct knowledge will save you alot of heartache.

Any Advice would be appreciated whether its on real estate or just investing thank you.

    HI There,

I'm from Corvallis Oregon. Just got started a couple months ago. I went to the library and read as many books as I could. I then hooked up with a real estate agent and made many offers offers (some lowball, some reasonable). Now I'm starting to market to people in foreclosure and doing some other marketing. Hey, I'd love to talk with you. Its kind of lonely out here! I'm not targeting portland, but south of pdx. I can share what I know. There's so many ways to approach the investing. I'm playing with the different methods. Private email me if you want to talk and I'll give you my contact info...

I went to the Russ Whitney free seminar. I had read his book already. I learned most of the stuff in already. For me its about ACTION now.

    Best,
    Paola

I have been investing in Oregon and Washington for the last couple years and have a successful track record. If you are interested in investing with me on a upcoming deal and getting an education while doing it, let me know.

    Hope to hear from you.

    To all,

    1. I am from OR (at least some of the time as I travel a lot). Contact me with a private message and we can trade details. I have been investing for 21 years.

    2. There is a active RE group in OR/southern WA with sub-groups in some other areas (WA Tri-Cities, Eugene & Salem, Eastern OR). I am not sure about the police on this side so send me a message and I can get you the URL. I think if you looked for local chapters on this side they come up for OR. Either way, just send me a note and I can get you the URL.

    3. As to Russ W. and others. I have spent a lot of money on different courses over the 21 years. There is a place for some of the people and their programs. I think just about anyone can get started just by reading and meeting with others in your area. Some might have to travel to a larger city to meet more investors. Use your educational funds for such trips. The active investors will be full of suggestions and can screen the courses so you only sign up for the good ones.

Have fun, make money and watch out for the police on this site. If they were a little more liberal the information would flow a little faster.

Welcome samoanboy, nice to meet you.
As you can see, i live in Tigard.

This site is a great start for you(us) to start learning. I am a RE info junky. I have spent nearly two years studying before doing my first deal. (actually picking up a check today from that first deal .

i've learned a bit about the gurus. There are the guys who get you to buy something from them and the just want you to buy more and more, usually more expensive stuff. Whitney qualifies here, and i had same experience with Allen, and the other latenight infomercial salesman. don't spend your money there.

As you read through these forums several get good reccomendations, john locke being one. i just purchased the birddog and subject to courses and recommend them. I haven't tried yet, but i am told john is there for you 24/7.

Another reccomendation, join NWREII. Its a local nonprofit realestate club. I've learned and met many likeminded people there. in fact i shopped my property at a meeting and found my buyer there. go to their website to find out more.

If you want to learn more feel free to PM me, and i'd be glad to answer any questions with what i have learned in my search for the knowledge that will help me become successful at RE investing.
but you have made good start by joining TCI! good luck..

    cheers,
    john
