Preferences
In the left column of my screen, under "Topics 'N Comments", the first link is "Preferences".
When I click "Preferences", the first option is,
"News Number in Home (max. 127): ", and you can choose between 1 and 127.
What does this mean? What is the function?

They are your home preferences.
If you look beneath that you will see Topics and Comments Preferences, you can customize the Topics and Comments block to the forum you participate in the most.
