Taxes In Arrears.... Help

Wayneone profile photo

Need assistance. I purchased a property in August from someone (never had a problem with him since I have purchased several properties from him) that I have now learned is nearly 6000.00 in arrears on taxes. I have contacted the attorney who handled the settlement, etc. and have been advised that he has tried to contact the owner but is not getting a response...... meanwhile, when I speak with the previous owner, im being informed that he is contacting his accountant and will get back with me. What can I do about this LEGALLY since Im sure the City will be acting on this tax delinquent property very soon.

Need more info: Did you get a title search done? Did you buy title insurance?

Was your contract directly with the owner of the property? Did you get a warranty deed?

Title search done (clean)...no title insurance..... contract directly with the owner.....owner is financing....STILL waiting on deed from the attorney who held escrow. I believe whats going on is that the owner is trying to sell the note and with that plans to pay the taxes (just my thoughts) I think he is having problems doing so which is not my problem OR BETTER YET...it IS my problem.

If the closing attorney will not show you a course of action, perhaps you need to get an opinion from an experienced real estate attorney who will represent only YOU.

Interesting how you can speak to the seller, but the attorney is unable to contact him.
