I bought some liens in Maricopa Co. last year. Half already redeemed, and I barely broke even after admin. costs, not to mention travel. But I have family there and will go again this year. Look in the official announcements; some liens are for only a few dollars, and they add $5 for processing, so conceivably you could bring a twenty spot and walk out with a couple of liens. Most of the little liens are for tiny leftover fragments and such, and are probably worthless. Others could be diamonds in the rough. My advice is to pick a neighborhood (near you is best, since you know it) find the parcel #s avail there, and research them on http://www.maricopa.gov/assessor/ParcelApplication/Default.aspx

Get what info you can from there. Photos of plats with the property highighted are often available, as are recorded docs. Print some out. Go visit them. Get your bearings. Sometimes the little parcels are overlooked because they're worthless even if you owned the property and not just the lien, others could be hidden treasure (but those are scarce) Nobody could possibly research them all, there are thousands of liens. The big institutional players go for the larger liens, but there are some other bottom feeders like you (and I). The more time you invest, the better luck you'll end up having.. Have fun!
