Finding An Accountant

stevenwendy profile photo

How do I find a great accountant who really understands real estate? We have been buying and selling rehabs quickly. It has been reported as capital gains and also as no documented income- doesn't help with the lenders. We also just lost money for the first time and want to make sure our tax debt reflects that. Any help appreciated.

Start interviewing and use the word interview. Call up and introduce yourself and say that you are looking for a good accountant. Chit chat for awhile and if they seem promising ask them if there would be a time you could set up for a no-cost interview.

I got lucky and hired my 3rd accountant I interviewed but I had to interview over 30 attorneys before I finally decided to use two of them for different purposes.

    GOOD LUCK

PS--It is amazing what you can find out from interviewing professionals that deal with real estate. You can certainly learn all of the "state specific" details of buying and selling real estate...just don't expect them to teach you how to make money or what to look for in an investment. That is your job smile

Ft. Myers is a ways away, but I have one in N. Tampa who is incredible - I highly reccommend her.

Mods: Am I allowed to post her name/number, or is this a PM thing?

I live in the NYC area, I'm presently looking to put in place my investment team. I'd really appreciate it if you'll could recommend a few accountants(preferably with an LLM from NYU), and RE attorneys with experience apt bldg deals. I sincerely appreciate your help. We hope to interview 3-5 canditates, resumes and references would be a huge help. We hope to purchase in March so we'll need to form our very soon. It's not going to be a huge deal (less than 1M probably), but our
philosophy is to be thorough and completely professional.

    I sincerely appreciate your help,
