Wrapping Replacement Windows

monkfish profile photo

Hi,

One of my rentals is vinyl sided and I'm getting ready to replace the windows with vinyl replacements.

Can anyone shed some light on how I wrap the windows.

The outside sill is already wrapped in vinyl, but once I remove the storm window casings it will be wood underneath. I assume I've got to wrap this to protect it and have the outside window area look uniform with the rest of the house.

Questions:

Should I use aluminum or vinyl?

How exactly do I fasten the wrap to the inside/outside of the window?

Should I hire a professional for the wrapping?

If so...

Can I install the replacements first and have the windows wrapped after, or does the wrapping need to be done before the replacements are installed?

Many Thanks!

There was a post just a few days ago that explains all your questions.

Replacement windows are done from the inside and will not affect the casing on the out side. Go to Home depot and pick up a "how to" sheet on installing replacement windows. It will tell you how to measure for the replacement.
You carefully take off the interior window trim then the interior stop block to remove the window sashes. Leave the exterior stop block intact. This is what the new window will fit up against. Chaulk before installing.
